Syllabus - A Series - Wire EDM Level 1

Wire EDM Level 1 - Machine Fundamentals

"A" Series Operations Course - 3 Days

The Machine Fundamentals Course will introduce and instruct the student in the functions, setups and operational principles of the current model "RA", "FA", "FA-P", "FA-V", or "QA" series 64-bit PC based Mitsubishi Wire EDM machine. It is primarily designed to provide the first time user with a good knowledge foundation of the features and specific controls necessary to run the average Wire EDM job and is introductory in nature.

Description:

The Wire EDM Machine Fundamentals Course begins with an introduction to the various features of the machine tool, generator, and controller.

A demonstration and class lab follow this on workpiece preparation fundamentals that will allow each student to actually use the setup feature(s) of the machine to qualify and setup a job. Each student will be shown proper edge, center and corner pickups, as well as corner P and WK slope. Pickup repeatability, wire alignments and how to gauge check setups will be discussed.

Students will be given time on the machines to work with set data functions, and preparation procedures such as setting head height, water levels, and wire tensions. They will be shown methods for installing the carbides, diamond guides and flushing cups of the upper and lower head assemblies.

Control screen navigation and functions will be presented followed by explanations of how the technology settings, feedrates and offsets effect the machining result. There will be a discussion forum on workpiece preparation, axis rotation, program mirror functions, how to use dry run, trace controls, interfere checks, AWF skip, auto return, Corner Master 2, Auto Second Cut, Power Master, and Axis exchange.

Techniques for machining stepped workpieces, taper cutting and lands will be shown, as well as use of the I/O features of the machine. Common MDI G & M codes will be explained.

Who should attend:

This course is designed primarily for new equipment operators or for those who have not used the Windows based control before.

A fundamental understanding of CNC operations and general Wire EDM concepts is suggested. Knowledge of industry terms used in this course will greatly aid in understanding of the machine features.
